Hawaii’s Breathtaking Beaches

August 27, 2018 By admin Leave a Comment

The state of Hawaii is known to many as the ‘Paradise of the Pacific’, and once you have experienced for yourself the stunning scenery and magnificent beaches of these islands you’ll soon realise why! Whatever your holiday style, Hawaii has beaches to suit everyone; with a variety of family beach parks, romantic coves, bays perfect for water-sports, and undeveloped shorelines. If you’re looking for an affordable vacation in a paradise-like destination, Hawaii is second-to-none.

With warm weather all year-round, the best time to visit these really good beaches in Hawaii is likely to depend on what type of vacation you’re looking for. Winter months, from October to April, typically offer comfortable temperatures between 15 and 28 degrees Celsius, and are perfect for fans of water-sports, particularly surfing. With enormous swells in the sea around the islands during winter months the conditions are just right for surfing, and there are numerous surfing competitions that take place during that time. The summer season, between May and October, boasts average temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius, but as with all vacation destinations tourism peaks during school holidays so the beaches get more crowded.

For couples who want a romantic spot in which to share a beautiful sunset, Hawaii has many breathtaking choices. The beautiful white sand of Hanalei Bay on the island of Kauai offers a spectacular backdrop of mountains and waterfalls, and many consider it to be the singular most beautiful beach in the state. Adventurous couples should try Hamoa Beach on Maui, which is actually set inside a ruptured volcano crater. A visit to this delightful beach is well worth the white-knuckle drive to get there!

Also on the island of Maui, Palauea Beach is an excellent choice for families with young children due to the shallowness of the water and its sheltered location. An additional family-friendly option is the work-famous Waikiki Beach. Although it can be very busy, there is no shortage of sights and activities to keep the kids occupied, and the many restaurants and bars that line the beach are perfect for when the sun reaches its peak during the middle of the day.

With the huge variety of fabulous beaches that Hawaii has to offer, it’s no wonder that people of all ages and from all walks of life have fallen in love with the islands, and return again and again.

Poll Indicates Some Couples Like Vacations

February 28, 2013 By admin 1 Comment

In a stunning development, a new poll released this week by the U.S. Travel Association provides strong evidence that couples who take vacations together typically have stronger relationships and better sex lives. While the study was quiet on the point, it seems probable that these couples also have better tans and buy more luggage than couples who don’t take vacations or, if they do, spend them in the basement.

Thank you, scientific polling methodologies!

Thank you, scientific polling methodologies!

The survey is unashamedly designed to encourage people to travel more, ideally in the US, and so I can’t criticise its noble intentions. I can, however, delight in making fun of its methodology and conclusions.

For instance, apparently some 83% of the approximately some people who took part in the poll said that a weekend getaway was likely to spark romance. The Travel Association concludes from this that vacations cause whoopy. This rather blindly ignores the more likely and obvious interpretation — those of us who travel are more sentimental than those who don’t. We’re not romantic because we travel, we travel because we’re romantic.

Similarly, 77% of respondents who travel together say that they have a good sex life, compared with 63% of those who do not travel together. This means that both groups are doing pretty well in direct contradiction with real scientific studies that indicate that more than half of people in relationships are unhappy with their sex lives, so either this poll suffers some small selection bias or it sampled at most eight couples (or it’s complete bullshit from beginning to end).

According to the survey, couples who travel together are appreciably more likely to make it past the five year point. I wonder what conclusion could be drawn from that, apart from traveling together reinforces relationships? In light of the fact that most couples identify money as the single greatest source of dispute, could it be that those that can afford to travel are less likely to have financial issues? Yes, it could indeed be that.

Oddly enough, the one figure that’s difficult to misinterpret appears to have made it into the published results by mistake: “More than one in every four couples (28%) say their sex life improved after traveling together”. That’s right, this poll shows that almost 75% of couples experienced no change or a deterioration of sexual activity after traveling together. Now that bit would be worrying if this poll had any credibility at all but it doesn’t so it’s not.

Having said all that I’m pretty sure that a vacation — in that it’s time away from the kids in an anonymous environment that often involves bikinis and other people doing the dishes and not caring what the neighbours hear — is going to contribute to a healthy relationship. In fact I’ll go so far as to say that’s just stating the obvious and it certainly doesn’t need support from an unscientific poll sponsored by an industry lobby.

Aragonese Castle

September 19, 2012 By admin Leave a Comment

Ischia is considered to be the biggest island in the entire bay of Naples and also the most beautiful. This place is adorned with many interesting sights that attract people from all parts of the world. The Aragonese castle is said to be one such place that entices the visitors from far and near to visit it.

This magnificent castle has been built in the medieval period and is situated in Ischia, in the northern corner of Gulf of Naples, in Italy and is regarded as the most striking monument on the island. This castle stands on a tiny island close to Ischia Ponte and can be easily reached by crossing the stone bridge. This castle is around 113 meters high and can be accessed by a very old mule track or simply by using the modern elevator, which was installed during the seventies.

The construction of this castle dates back to the year 474 BC and in 1441 it was connected to the rest of the island with a proper stone bridge instead of the previous wood bridge by Alfonso 5 of Aragon, who also fortified the entire walls to defend himself and the inhabitants of the castle against the constant raids of the pirates. This castle has really been a crowd puller. The Aragonese Castle has been constructed on a volcanic rock and is regarded as an impressive historical monument. It was constructed by Heiro 1 of Syracuse. Two towers were also built to keep an eye on the movements of the enemy fleets.

Later, this rock castle was occupied by the Parthenopeans who were the ancient inhabitants of the country of Naples. For a brief period, this fortress went to the hands of the Romans and was regained by the Parthenopeans. Around 1500 to 2000 families are said to have lived on this islet, including the Abbey of Basilian from Greece, the seminar and the Bishop, the Clarisses Convent, the Prince and the military garrison. This place also was home to 13 churches. Later this castle was sold off to a private owner in 1912.

The castle is accessed easily through a tunnel having wide openings for letting the light to enter. There is also present a tiny chapel along the tunnel that is devoted to St. John Joseph, the island’s patron saint. One could get a much more comfortable access with the presence of a modern lift. There are also other places of interest like the Cathedral of Assunta and the Church of Immacolata. The latter is said to have been constructed in the year 1737 and was dedicated to St. Francis, but was closed due to the Convent suppression in the year 1806 including Nunnery of Clarisses. One such exhibit present in the castle is entirely dedicated to different forms of torture that was conducted on the captured pirates of the medieval age.

All these features of the castle make it an interesting place and a medieval wonder for the tourists and attract them from far and wide.

Up For Tikehau, in The Polynesian Islands?

August 29, 2012 By admin Leave a Comment

Tikehau is situated around 340 kilometers northeast of Tahiti in the islands of Tuamoto and is an atoll in French Polynesia. The word Tikehau means ‘Peaceful Landing’ in the Tuamotuan local language. Rangiroa is the nearest atoll and lies just 12 kilometers to the east. The western most atolls, Mataiva is of the same group and is situated around 35 kilometers to the west. Tikehau atoll’s oval shaped lagoon is around 19 kilometer wide and 27 kilometer long and has a lagoon area of around 461 km square.

The atoll comprises of numerous islets and two important islands. The entire atoll is enclosed by a continuous coral reef. However, one can encounter a lonely pass wide and deep enough for navigating ships in and out of this lagoon. On the map Tuheiava Pass can be found on the atoll’s western shore. Islets and the islands are surrounded by coconut palms and are considered to be a tourist haven. Tuherahera is an important village of this atoll and draws plenty of crowd from across the globe during all seasons.

The first European recorded visit to this atoll was by a Russian mariner named ‘Otto Von Kotzebue’. He named this atoll as Krusenstern Island, named after ‘Adam Johann Von-Krusenstern’ a very well-known Russian explorer and this specific name was given later to the other islands. The ‘Wilkes Expedition’ was said to have crossed this beautiful atoll on the 9th of September, 1839. In 1987, the research group of Jacques Cousteau conducted an analysis of Tikehau’s lagoon and found that it contained a huge variety of different types of fish compared to other locations in entire Polynesia. This is one of the main reasons, why people come flocking to this place, round the year.

Tikehau is considered to be a tourist destination and has very popular pink sandy beaches, including the underwater fauna. Visiting this place has never been a problem as this place is well connected by air and water. The Tikehau airport, built on the atoll’s southern tip sees in and out thousands of passengers all the year round. This atoll is surrounded by the cozy, blue warm waters of the Pacific Ocean and is a complete attraction in itself. The tourists can simply have the huge coral reefs all to themselves and enjoy scuba diving.

They can also enjoy surfing as there are some breaks in between the corals that tend to peel off the sides of the entrance of the lagoon. Tourists who enjoy fishing can simply have their fill all day long in this atoll as this place is by large home to a huge number of species and can provide a wonderful getaway for those who prize their catches. The middle of the lagoon is actually the home to various boobies and nesting terns. Bird watchers can simply have a gala time watching the beauties of nature. The best part is that though this place is a secluded one, there are some resorts out here that provide comfort and relaxation to the tourists without pinching their pockets. The excitement never ends!!!
