A lot of people travel, and there are many different reasons for this. While it is always agreed that traveling is good for the soul, there are reasons other than relaxation for it. Traveling is something that we, as humans, have done since the dawn of time. If we hadn’t, we would all still be on the same continent. Let’s take a look at the different types of travelers. Which one do you identify with, and which one do you think would book to do their traveling through Tauck Tours?
Backpackers
Backpackers go around with all the belongings they need in a single pack. This includes shelter, water, food, clothing and toiletries. Traveling with compact belongings can be hard, but it is also a lot of fun because it gives you the ultimate freedom. Most backpackers will also sleep in the wilderness or anywhere other than a hotel or campsite.
Female and LGBT Travelers
Once upon a time, women couldn’t go anywhere on their own. Now, they can go wherever they please and many take pride in doing so. Similarly, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) travelers have started to emerge.
Disabled Travelers
Not too long ago, someone who was disabled would never be able to travel. The facilities for them to move around safely simply didn’t exist. While there are still some locations on the planet that are not overly disabled friendly, there are actually plenty of places where people can go now and many organized tours pride themselves on being friendly for disabled.
Festival Travelers
Almost every country in the world has a number of different festivals. Festivals are opportunities to get to know a country’s culture and history. Many people, therefore, travel specifically to be able to attend certain festivals.
Extreme Sports
It is now widely accepted to be an adrenaline junkie. So much so, in fact, that skiing, snowboarding and diving are no longer seen as extreme sports. People who go skydiving, BASE jumping or wild water rafting, by contrast, are now seen as the ones who go on vacation to enjoy extreme sports.
Location Weddings
Some people travel just to get married. In fact, location weddings are now very popular. Some locations like Dominica, Florida and Jamaica are particularly popular for destination weddings. As an added benefit, it combines the wedding with the honeymoon.
Pilgrims
Most religions have pilgrimages. Catholics may travel to Lourdes, Jews to the Wailing Wall and Muslims travel to Mecca and Medina. This is a religious and meditative holiday that some say is the very best for the soul.
Other Options
There are a number of other reasons as to why people travel. These include:
- Visiting people who live abroad.
- Traveling abroad to seek medical treatment. This is particularly popular for cosmetic surgery.
- Traveling abroad to follow a favorite sports team.
- Cruise passengers, both on sea cruises and on river cruises.
- Traveling to help nature, such as to Antarctica.
As you can see, people travel for many different reasons. But, in most cases, the ultimate goal is to enjoy yourself.
